SimpleRisk Core

SimpleRisk Core

When I released the original free and open source version of SimpleRisk back in March 2013, I can honestly say that I had no idea it would become what it is today.  I was simply tasked with starting a risk management program for National Instruments and they couldn't prioritize purchasing a GRC solution, so I ended up putting some of my secure coding skills to use.  In its initial iteration, SimpleRisk was nothing more than a page to submit a risk, a page to edit risks, and a page to view all of the risks submitted.  Just a simple risk registry.

This past weekend, we released the SimpleRisk 20180301-001 version of SimpleRisk.  Much of our effort on this release was spent with a major enhancement to the Risk Assessment Extra.  This Extra turns SimpleRisk into a fully functional internal and vendor risk assessment tool.  It provides you with the ability to create a database of questions, add them to a questionnaire, send that questionnaire to one or more contacts, collect the results, and push resulting risks into SimpleRisk.  Future iterations of this Extra will also provide you with the ability to add logic to questionnaires and co

At SimpleRisk, we typically focus on four major releases a year that roughly align with the end of the calendar quarter.  The SimpleRisk 20191130-001 release was not intended to be a full feature release, like those others, and instead primarily focused on fixing various bugs and newly discovered security issues from the 20190930-001 release, but also included a handful of new features and integrations for our brand new Jira Extra currently in Beta.

New functionality added into the SimpleRisk Core with the 20191130-001 release include:

For nearly four months, we have been hard at work preparing for our next major feature release.  Those features officially went live with our 20200328-001 release.  As we began to roll it out to customers, however, we ran into a handful of bugs that we didn't feel comfortable moving forward with.  The next three days were all hands on deck while we focused on bug fix and testing to make sure that the release was something that we could be proud of.  Finally, we released an updated 20200401-001 release that included all of the features of the prior release, but with fewer bugs.  What follows

This past weekend, SimpleRisk went live with our Q2 2020 release.  Like the releases before it, a tremendous amount of effort went into packing in as many features and functionality as possible, while retaining the underlying simplicity.  In addition, our HackerOne Bug Bounty program continues to help us to identify and fix potential security vulnerabilities and we've corrected a number of bugs, as well.  The full release notes for this release can be downloaded here.  What f
